Comment posted Is LASIK and other laser corrective surgery really safe? And how long could it really last? by Margaret.

Lasik eye surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her dental implants and Lasik surgery in India by a company called Indian Health Guru Consultants. The Price for dental and Lasik surgery is very less in India. She paid 25% of the price she was quoted in America.

Indian Health Guru Consultants is very famous in India They arrange Dental surgery, jaw surgery, Lasik eye surgery, Dental Implants etc for foreign patients in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines- about their patient stories.
They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as dental and eye surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

  • I’ve read good but mostly bad stories. To me my sight is too precious to take the chance. I can deal with the reading glasses and if eventually I need them for more than just reading so be it.

  • I had LASIK 6 years ago for my -5.50 myopia — it has worked VERY nicely for me! I had worn glasses since third grade. I do have larger pupils, however, and the LASIK has created some glare and halo for me, especially at nights, and increased my dry eye condition.

I also know to expect reading glasses when I hit about 40 or so . . .

but I would do it again!

However, plenty of people don’t like their results — you can easily find those stories on the internet. Sometimes, there really was a complication, and sometimes it’s the patient’s expectation.

At the office I work at, we’ve had patients in who see 20/40 and think they see great! and patients who see 20/20 who complain that their vision is blurred and they want re-treatment.

CUSTOM LASIK is the newest technology — but who knows? Maybe 15 years from now, we won’t believe that we ever did this procedure, thinking it was good technology . . .much like we think of RK (radial keratometry) or LTK (laser thermal keratoplasty) . . . can you believe that people had little spoke-like cuts made all around their cornea? For just temporary results?

The only people who consider LASIK "safe" are the people who got good results!

Strange . . .I have worked with/known about 15 eye doctors . . .most of them wear glasses . . .and of the bunch, only one had lasik — and since she was approaching 40 at the time, she did monovision — one eye for near, one for distance . . .

  • yes.

Less than 20 minutes, although you will need to have time to recuperate after the surgery (keep your eyes closed). I’ve laid out the step by step of the process and even included a video of the surgery itself at http://www.wika-lasik.com

  • What is 20/20 Vision?
I HAVE 20/20 but when you see how many ppl have glasses/contacts, it makes me think about 20% because even if you dont have them, you probably dont have 20/20 or even 19/20! lol

13? Lasik at 13 years old? That’s interesting.

    Anyway…

LASIK is a very brief procedure. If everything goes well, it should be done in 15 minutes or less.

It’s usually done while the patient is awake. Topical (eye drops) anesthesia is used. Its not that uncomfortable to the patient.

  • Do You Need Eye Surgery?
I personally only know one child who had this defect. While I have temporarily lost contact with the family (military family, moved), he still had not needed to have surgery and he had just had his 3rd birthday.
