Lasik Eye Procedure – What Happens During a Lasik Eye Surgery

Filed under: lasik results — admin @ 4:10 am

People that were forced to wear contacts or glasses all their life can now leave these aids behind by using a new and innovative LASIK procedure called the LASIK eye surgery.

This new type of refractive eye surgery can be risky but in most cases after detailed testing and consultation the final result is a good one. If you worry about the duration of the surgery, you should know that everything lasts only a few minutes but in order to obtain good results you should be very careful about the pre and post operative appointments.

It is very important to choose a good eye surgeon and after he evaluates he’ll establish the details of the procedure. He’ll let you know if you’re a good candidate or not, he’ll explain the procedure, the complications, the risks and the final result and together you’ll set the post-op appointment.

A few weeks before the LASIK eye procedure it’s recommended that you use only glasses and no contact lens because the shape of the cornea plays the most important role during evaluation.

When the procedure starts you’ll be sitting in a chair while the doctor will put numbing drops in your eyes. After he cleans up the area around the eyes, he’ll use a machine that will keep your eye lids open.

You might feel pretty weird because our eye lids are programmed to shut but if you stay relaxed you won’t feel a thing. The lasik eye surgeon use various types of machines and that’s why the level of discomfort can vary a lot from one patient to another.

Next, you’ll have to look straight into a laser placed over your eye while the surgeon will complete the procedure.

Everything happens very fast and the discomfort will only last a few seconds. All the above mentioned details sound scary and when you think that everything happens in the eye you might reconsider but you shouldn’t. LASIK eye procedure is very safe and most candidates leave the hospital with excellent results.

Has anyone had LASIK done at Francis Eye & Laser Center in Utica, NY? If so, Did you have good results?

Filed under: lasik results — admin @ 8:11 pm

I have no idea, but you could ask them for referances and aslo ask your BBB if they have had any complaints, also check out the liscsenses of the doctors there. You can read about what questions to ask and how to check a place out with a best selling book by premier lasik surgeon Dr. Robert maloney. He has great ideas and great references to lasik surgeons all over the US Check it out (I am not an employee of his at all!)

For those that have had LASIK done, can you give me some details and are you happy with the results?

Filed under: lasik results — admin @ 7:10 pm

i haven’t had it done, but my aunt and my mom both had it done and they love it. My mom said it’s a really short procecure, you just need someone to drive you there and home cuz you can’t do anything that day. They hold your eyes open and there’s some pressure on it as the laser goes over your eye. My mom said it’s a little uncomfortable for that day and the next but the worst part was trying to sleep in these goggle things you’re supposed to wear afterwards because you’re not allowed to rub your eyes… anyways, i am definitely going to get it done once i’m done with school. So go to a place with a good reputation with a doctor that has done a lot of the procedures! good luck

Has anyone had lasik done that had -8.50 contact lenses and how were your results?

Filed under: lasik results — admin @ 8:37 am

don’t do lasik and wait for the intra-lasik…..google it…its something better and new machine but how ever i say you wait a little longer before anything to see if there is any side-affects!!!!

Have heard good and bad about Laser Eye Surgery (Lasik)… Who has had and do you like your results?

Filed under: lasik results — admin @ 3:58 am

I had it done about 2 years ago and am VERY happy I did. But just know that it may have to be done more than once (did 2x’s for me). It’s because doctors over correct you since when the human eye heals it reverts backwards. And since doctors can only estimate how far back it will rever, it may need to be touched up (with my doctor it was for a much smaller fee than the initial surgery). But, my sister got a cheaper version of the surgery and it was perfect in one shot.
All depends on your body. Oh, and one more thing that may be an issue to make you not want it is that your eyes may heal in a way that causes "starbursts" at night when light (street lights and car lights) are present. Makes things look like they have halo’s and can be an issue when trying to focus. But, again, it all depends on how your body heals.
I don’t personally know one person who regrets having it done even with the negative points I mentioned.
Good luck.

Don’t Get Lasik Surgery Until you Ready This!

Filed under: lasik results — admin @ 3:55 pm

If you are thinking about getting Lasik Surgery, be aware that there are some slight risks involved. Although these risks only occur only 5% of the patients, before getting Lasik surgery, take a look below at some of the pot ential complications.

Halo, this is one of the most common side effects associated with getting Lasik Surgery, this includes small glares, a halo’s that are associated with night vision and sometimes the patient may experience dry eyes.

Under Corrected or Over Corrected Vision: When this occurs the patient will need further treatment or corrective lenses and or contact lenses. The great news is that these complications do dissipate between a few days to 3-6 months after Lasik surgery. For more information it is best to ask your doctor and ask for stats from his or her patients.

Implantable Lenses for Natural Occurrences:

Although Lasik Surgery can correct vision, it does not prevent the onset of Presbyopia, which in laymen terms is the decline in vision that those in middle age and after experience. This can be noted when one has to ready with corrective lenses. The best treatment and the most reliable treatment for Presbyopia is contact lenses. Some patients do not like the daily hassles of messing with contact lenses, dry eyes, etc, and opt to have a lens implanted to replace their eye’s natural lens. This is an option if you experience nearsightedness, which most common resulting from Presbyopia. From a professional and medical opinion this is the best option for those whose vision cannot be corrected with Lasik Surgery. Now, on to more Lasik complications.

Light Sensitivity.

This complication is one of the most common of those who undergo Lasik surgery. This side effect will generally last around 5 days after Lasik Surgery.

“Starbursts”, Glare and the Infamous Halo

These are classified as general vision problems when the flap of the corneal does not correctly adhere after replacement. This side effect will disappear after the first month. Another cause for this is when the pupil will dilate larger than the previous treatment zone.

Dry Eyes

This side effect shows itself through redness of the eyes, sometimes blurred vision, itchiness of the eye, eye crusting, or the false sensation that an object is in the eye such as dust or dirt.

Astigmatism

This is when the cornea becomes warped as a result of Lasik sugery, this warping is due from scarring and results in a complete failure of the Lasik surgery. Those who experience this side effect will still have to wear corrective lenses.

The great news about these side effects is that the further advances in Lasik technology can reduce the amount of these side effects. Infact there this a new Lasik procedure call Intralasik which is bladeless and uses a laser. The result is less complications with the flas that can cause Astigmatism. Since these new developments, the risks for the above side effects diminish rapidly and as science and technology drive forward less instances will be noted by patiences.

What to expect while getting Lasik Surgery?

Filed under: lasik results — admin @ 1:17 pm

I am getting Lasik surgery on Thursday and was wondering if anyone could tell me what to expect the day of surgery? I’m not worried about the results, just want to know what will happen and what I should expect to experience? Thank you!

They will give you a pill to make you calm, a mild sedative. They don’t want you twitching in the chair during the surgery.

Once you are calm the will probably put some drops in your eyes. Then they bring in "the Machine" once the machine is in place they will bring it in contact with your eye and you won’t be able to see anything. That was the most unnerving part for me, once I had made up my mind to get the surgery.

Mine was a while ago but it took about 5 minutes to do the first eye and another 10 minutes or so to get the machine lined up on the second eye. Another 5 minutes for the second eye and it was over.

Then they will put in some more eye drops, antibiotic drops to prevent infection. They may or may not give you a vision test at this time.

They will probably have you come back the following morning to see how things are going. You will probably be very light sensitive due to minor eye irritation. I was unable to open my eyes even with dark gl;asses while outside the day after the surgery. Which wasn’t good for me as I am very susceptible to motion sickness. I had to have my wife stop the car for 10 minutes just a 1/4 mile from the parking lot so I wouldn’t get sick. Light sensitivity went away within 3 days and vision kept improving slowly over the next 3 weeks (although it was very good even 2 days after surgery.

My only side effect is that my vision shows small secondary images when my pupil is fully open (dim light or at night) makes it hard to read street signs at night or stargaze. Other than that it is wonderful.

Have you had LASIK surgery? Tell me about the experience and results please!?

Filed under: lasik results — admin @ 5:39 am

Have you had LASIK surgery? Tell me about the experience and results please! Also, I’d be very interested in any horror stories. I won’t both points of view if they both exist.

I was about 20/250 before Lasik surgery a couple of years ago. The procedure was painless, probably due to the eye numbing drops and Valium they gave me. The ride home (as a passenger, of course) was fairly uncomfortable, mainly due to light sensitivity. The doctor gave me dark goggles, but the light was still too bright. I was in some pain once I got home (maybe 3 hours post procedure), but I had some left over Vicodin, and took two doses of that. The Vicodin took the edge off. Slept fine that night. Woke up the next morning, and I COULD SEE FINE! Hallelujah! I was jazzed up about that. I drove myself to my one day check up (an 2 hour round trip) with no problems, although I did bring someone with me, as a backup driver, should it have been necessary. For that check up, I was seeing at 20/25, less than 24 hours after the surgery. I went to work that afternoon (doing ultrasound which really requires you to use your eyes). For my one week check up, I was seeing between 20/20 and 20/15. Other than the touch of pain I had post procedure, before I went to bed for the night, I had no other problems. I would do it again in a heartbeat! No more glasses, no more contacts, no more cleaning solutions and saline!

My advice would be to talk to everyone….talk to your family, friends and co-workers. Then ask your family, friends and co-workers to talk to their family, friends and co-workers….you get the idea. I found my surgeon by word of mouth. I asked everyone I know if they had Lasiks (or knew anyone who had Lasiks), and what doctor they went to. Almost everyone I talked to in my area went to the surgeon I ended up going to, and everyone was perfectly satisfied. I went into the procedure very confident!

Just one other thing….I went to a doctor who used computerized, laser equipment. No knives were involved. But, it cost me a pretty penny. I paid $5500 for both eyes, but I was not comfortable going to a doctor that advertised in the newspaper for $500 per eye. Sometimes you get what you pay for! Good luck to you!
